Goldhawks Basketball was first founded in 2012, based out of Guildford, Surrey. The Club’s first ever team to enter National League was U14’s Girls, competing in the 2012/2013 Season. Since the club’s early days, the growth of Goldhawks has been rapid. Goldhawks now have players joining the programme from all over the South-East, South and London regions. A number of Goldhawks players have gone on to represent Junior National Teams, and you can read about these players via the Roll of Honour page.
The National League Women’s Team entered their maiden season in 2014/15, being used primarily as tool for developing youth players. The focus of the team is to work closely with the club’s partner, Royal Holloway University, to develop a team capable of competing at the highest level whilst providing an excellent platform for young British talent.
2015 was a massive year for the club, welcoming the world-leading Alan Stein to run his acclaimed Cutting Edge Clinic in Surrey. This was a highly successful event, with coaches and players from throughout Europe in attendance.
The club’s extensive playing pathway was further boosted in the summer of Autumn 2015, receiving AASE Accreditation to develop a high performance academy in Surrey. Partnering with Rydens Enterprise School & Sixth Form College to run the programme, elite level players can access 15- 20 hours a week of elite coaching. This was further complemented by the announcement of a partnership with the iconic Royal Holloway University, providing players with the opportunity to study domestically and play in a high performance programme.
The club has forged a reputation for its professionalism, exciting branding and elite level youth coaching. Goldhawks was delighted to announce a multi-year partnership with the iconic Spalding brand in June 2015, followed by another partnership with the world-leading New York-based company, Krossover Technology. This was all coupled with the announcement of the Goldhawks Euro Invitational Tournament, bringing elite level European club teams to Surrey on an annual basis.
The club’s astonishing development has continued alongside the continuous growth of its community programme. Working with a number of key partners and organisations such as Basketball England, Network Rail and Active Surrey, hundreds of young people throughout Surrey participate in Goldhawks community programmes. The Goldhawks Basketball League (GBL), complements these activities to provide a fantastic platform for youth development.
